Leaves are falling, Springfield is balling – City series part 1

The city series has been, and always will be a massive deal in the eyes of Springfieldians. Whether it be basketball, baseball, track and field or others, city sports always excite citizens of Springfield, as the majority of people have a team to support. This athletic year kicked off with the city golf and soccer series, and will be carried into city volleyball next week. These games are sure to keep sports fans on the edge of their seat.

Volleyball- The Lady Senators face a make or break series this next week, as they play the Southeast Spartans  Monday,  Lanphier Lions on Wednesday and the CS8 undefeated SHG Cyclones on Thursday. Not only that, but the lady Senators take a break from the city series on Tuesday, only to face the Glenwood Titans, who are contenders in the CS8 Conference race as well. Senior captains Kyra Minder, Arianne Moody, Annie Sherrick and Rose Varney look to lead an otherwise young squad into a very hostile city (and conference) environment. If the Senators can pass through this gauntlet unscaved, they will find themselves in the thick of things for the conference title.
Boys Soccer- The boys’ soccer team finished off their first opponent Tuesday, Sept. 13. The Senators pummeled the Southeast Spartans 9-1. Seniors Forwards Nate Cheung and Logan Willard look to push their team through this CS8 schedule, along with the help of other pieces, including attacking midfielder Kelby Phillips, goalkeeper Evan Wright, a stoic defense and remarkable midfield. The next city game will not be played until Sept. 27, where the Solons face the Lanphier Lions at Lee Field. The series will conclude on the final regular season matchup, at SHG on October 11th.
