Springfield ended their previous Friday with a tough loss to the Jacksonville Crimsons, where turnovers crippled the Senator offense. Coach Gully and company were not panicking as they headed to practice for the week.
The Decatur Macarthur Generals were the host for the Senators on Friday, September 9th. The Generals have fallen into the same boat as Springfield, in that no one really has an idea on what their identities are yet. This was a very important matchup for both squads this week.
The Senators found themselves rushing into the endzone on Friday. With the help of Caleb Smalls and others driving the field, Lucas Rockford punched into the endzone on the QB sneak, twice.
The Solons found themselves in a dogfight, as they were only up 14-7 at halftime.
Rockford hit Cam Jones on the goal line for the easy touchdown, making the score 22-7 in the 3rd quarter.
Both of the Jones boys displayed their electricity as they turned misdirections and screens into massive gains. It seems that these receivers might be the x-factor that will push over into a possible playoff berth.
Smalls found the endzone for the second time in the night. That capped off an impressive 34-13 win on the road. The record sits at 2-1 for the Senators.
A city rivalry is on the slate this week, as the Senators head to Southeast for a massive game. The Spartans were pummeled by the Rockets of Rochester 44-7 in the week prior.
This matchup might provide implications for the playoff race at the end of the season. Game will be Friday, September 16th at 7:00 PM. Southeast will be hosting the game this year.
